Gender and Development Plan of Action

A series of Gender and Development Action Plans (2000-2003) and (2008-2010) were developed as "roadmaps" for translating the GAD policy into concrete actions, activities and programs. The action plans include commitments on developing loan, grant and TA projects that directly address gender equality and women’s empowerment objectives. The GAD Plan also takes into consideration ADB's special role in a rapidly changing region, and its transition towards greater sector selectivity.

In April 2011, the GAD Plan of Action Implementation Matrix for the period 2011-2012 was approved to guide actions in three core areas:

  1. country partnership strategies and lending operations;
  2. policy dialogue and gender capacity support to developing member countries; and
  3. organizational effectiveness.

The updated Matrix 2011-2012 includes additional mechanisms for improved quality of design and implementation, enhanced monitoring of gender equality results, clearer country gender strategies, and better dissemination of good practices.
