Are the MDGs the Long Road to Gender Equality?

6 March 2014 -- At a panel to commemorate International Women's Day 2014 and Gender Month at ADB, UN Women Asia-Pacific Regional Director Roberta Clarke spoke about the challenges of advancing gender equality within the framework of the MDGs.

She suggested that the shortcomings need to be properly addressed in the post-2015 agenda. See speaking notes.

Discussants, Strategy and Policy Department's Anuradha Rajivan, on the way forward for development institutions, and Poverty Reduction, Social Development, & Governance Division's Susann Roth on health, joined discussions, while Senior Gender Advisor Shireen Lateef opened the panel.

The panel, hosted by the Gender Equity Community of Practice, was to kick off ADB Gender Month on 3 March at ADB Headquarters. It was attended by about 70 participants from ADB, academia and civil society.
