Gender Networking Event at World Urban Forum 6
ADB hosted a networking event at the 6th session of the UN Habitat World Urban Forum (WUF6) held in Naples, Italy from 2-6 September, to discuss ways to make urban development more gender inclusive.
Three projects from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Viet Nam that address gender issues in urban governance, small-town water supply and sanitation, and mass rapid transport, were profiled. The event benefited from the presence of a large Bangladesh delegation, comprised of the Secretary and Chief Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and 20 municipal mayors, many of whom are involved with the implementation of ADB project gender action plans (GAPs).
Shireen Lateef, Senior Advisor (Gender) also spoke on a Gender Equality Action Assembly panel, while Samantha Hung, Senior Social Development Specialist (Gender and Development) was a panelist at a Gender and Women Roundtable.
