Regional Technical Assistance

Regional technical assistance projects address emerging gender issues at the region-wide, subregional, or cross-border levels in Asia and the Pacific through research, capacity development, or policy advice to member countries.  They support gender equality and women's empowerment primarily through:

  • research on regional or cross-border gender issues
  • gender capacity development of regional institutions
  • gender capacity development of sector ministries and gender focal agencies
  • development of gender-responsive regional cooperation strategies, law reforms, and action plans

Gender-Responsive Decentralized Governance in Asia The TA promotes more transparent, gender-equitable and socially inclusive governance at decentralized level in the three countries through: gap analysis of policies, legislative and fiscal frameworks; support for gender-responsive budgeting pilot initiatives at decentralized level; capacity building of selected women and groups to effectively participate in local governance; and dissemination of knowledge products which capture the lessons learned.  Read more. Promoting Gender Equality in the Labor Market for More Inclusive Growth The TA conducts national labor market analyses from a gender perspective in the three countries to identify potential labor market and social protection reforms to promote decent and expanded employment opportunities for women. HIV Prevention and Infrastructure: Mitigating Risk in the Greater Mekong Subregion The TA supports 8 subprojects to reduce the incidence of HIV transmission and prevalence of sexual transmitted infections among workers and communities associated with ADB-financed infrastructure projects in the subregion. Enhancing Gender Equality Results in South Asia Developing Member Countries (Phase 2) The TA strengthens gender mainstreaming capacity of the 6 South Asia countries at the strategy development, project preparation and implementation, and knowledge management work. South Asia 2010
Promoting Gender-Inclusive Growth in Central and West Asia Developing Member Countries The TA improves gender mainstreaming capacity of 9 countries in Central and West Asia through collection and analysis of sex-disaggregated data, conduct of country gender assessments, pilot projects, and networking.

Promoting Evidence-Based Policy Making for Gender Equity in the Pacific The TA improves capacity of women’s offices and gender focal points in the 4 Pacific countries to promote evidence-based gender-inclusive policies through: compilation of baseline gender indicator by women’s offices; participatory and evidence-based country gender assessments; and gender awareness raising among government staff.
