India - Post Tsunami Recovery Program, Preliminary Damage and Needs AssessmentThis preliminary joint needs needs assessment [ PDF ] was released on 14 March 2005 by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the United Nations (UN) and the World Bank. The assessment was prepared in close cooperation with the Government of India. Total damage in India is estimated to be approximately US$574.5 million. Overall rehabilitation and reconstruction needs are estimated at $1.2 billion as they take into account not only replacement of damaged assets but upgrades to services and infrastructure in order to reduce their previous inherent vulnerability. ADB is discussing with the Government a $200 million emergency assistance package, subject to approval by ADB's Board of Directors, to help the reconstruction and rehabilitation effort in India.
