Maldives - Tsunami: Impact and Recovery Joint Needs Assessment by World Bank-ADB-UN System
This joint needs needs assessment was released on 8 February 2005 by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the World Bank.
The assessment was prepared in close cooperation with the Government of the Maldives. Total damages in the Maldives is estimated to be approximately US$470 million. Affected sectors include housing, tourism, education, fishing and transport.
The assessment includes a set of guiding principles for the reconstruction strategy.
About US$120 million of external financing will be required in the short term over the next six months.
