Fuel Quality Strategies Training Workshop
25 October – 1 November 2003
Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney

Sydney, Australia takes center stage this month with two important fuel events: the Fuel Quality Strategies Training Workshop and the World Fuels Conference - Asia 2003. The ADB Secretariat of the Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities is proud to support these activities, which are scheduled to take place this October.

This weeklong training workshop will enable senior decision makers from the petroleum industry, environment and energy departments, and leaders from the academe and multi-sectoral groups to kick-start the process for the development of medium-term fuel quality strategies that help reduce vehicle emissions. The training workshop will focus on the improvement of the quality of diesel and gasoline. Representatives from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Viet Nam will be attending the training.

Participants will have classroom training and an actual site visit to strengthen their understanding of the course, which will help them in drafting a fuel quality strategy. At the end of the training, the draft country fuel quality strategy will be presented to a panel of government representatives, fuels experts, and automotive manufacturing company representatives for feedback. Active follow-up will be provided after the training workshop through CAI-Asia's multi-country network of contacts.

This unique event is funded by the Australian Government through the Department of the Environment and Heritage, and is implemented by CAI-Asia in collaboration with the International Fuel Quality Center (IFQC).

The fuels training workshop has been organized alongside the 2nd Annual Hart World Fuels Conference, 26-28 October, and both events will take place in the same hotel. Participants to the fuels training workshop will be attending the 3-day conference to learn about specific experiences from around the world. The presentations from the World Fuels Conferences will be helpful to the training participants in drafting the fuel quality strategy.

The focus of this year's conference is on the Asian and Australasian Transportation and Clean Fuels Market. The latest program and registration fees can be viewed at the official website. Registration is still open, and everyone is welcome to register online.
