Regulatory framework

  • Law of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Management (1996)
  • Sub-decree No. 57 on the Organization and Function of the Ministry of Environment (1997) which creates a General Technical Directorate to manage six line departments:
    1. Department of Planning and Legal Affairs
    2. Department of Nature Conservation and Protection
    3. Department of Pollution Control
    4. Department of Natural Resources Assessment and Environmental Data Management
    5. Department of Environmental Education and Communications
    6. Department of Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Leaded gasoline not yet phased out
