Hong Kong, China: Environmental data

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) reports that

  • particulates and nitrogen oxides levels on the street have dropped by 8% and 11% respectively since 1999
  • number of smoky vehicles on the road has also been reduced
  • about 50% fewer smoky vehicles have been spotted over the year 2001, even though EPD has trained 15% more accredited spotters

EPD is confident to see further improvement in air quality in the coming years upon full implementation of the control measures.
