Hong Kong, China: Conventional fuels

Leaded gasoline: Phased out in 1999 (after unleaded gasoline was introduced in 1991)

Vehicle fuel standards:

  • Petrol - EPD has reduced benzene in unleaded petrol from 5% to 1% since April 2000. In January 2001, we upgraded the quality of petrol to meet current European standards.

  • Ultra low suphur diesel (ULSD) - Hong Kong is the first place in Asia to introduce ULSD on a full scale for its vehicle fleet. It is the only diesel fuel available in Hong Kong, after the Government introduced a concessionary duty on ULSD in July 2000.
