Leaded gasoline: Nationwide phase out is expected by 2005

Indonesia is a major oil producer and the world's largest exporter of liquified natural gas. Although the sale of leaded gasoline continues in some parts of the country, the Government of Indonesia estimates that the entire country will be free of leaded gasoline by 2005. PERTAMINA, the state-owned oil and gas company, will modify its Balongan and Cilacap refineries to produce more unleaded fuel. The company has already been supplying unleaded gasoline to Jakarta since 15 June 2001, and Bali since 20 November 2002.

Leaded gasoline is no longer sold in Jakarta, Cirebon, and Bali. The Government plans to phase out leaded fuel in the rest of Java later in 2003.
