Pakistan: Environmental data

Recent surveys carried out in the country revealed the presence of high levels of suspended particulate matter (PM) and NOx in major cities. Some studies have found high levels of carbon dioxide, NOx, and sulfur dioxide in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi.

Most of these measurements were taken using mobile units, and data on the concentration profile of criteria pollutants in the ambient urban environment is scare due to infrequent monitoring. This situation warrants continuous monitoring of ambient air quality through fixed monitoring stations to establish baseline data, identify sources, understand the impacts, and adopt remedial measures to minimize these impacts.
