Philippines: Reducing in-use vehicle emissions

Inspection and maintenance

The Clean Air Act has mandated the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to work with the DENR and DOTC to formulate and implement a National Motor Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance Program. All vehicles are now required to undergo emissions testing prior to registration. As of January 2003, 42 authorized private emission test centers (PETCs) are operating within Metro Manila.
