Since its establishment in 2004, NARBO has held training courses twice a year, designed by a host organization in collaboration with partner institutions:

Regional workshops will be held in conjunction with NARBO General Meeting. Thematic workshops will also be conducted to deepen discussion on specific themes concerning water resources management. Four thematic workshops on Water Allocation and Water Rights were held:
A 5th Workshop on Water Rights (29-31 May 2007; Manila, Philippines) discussed the NARBO Technical Paper on "Water Rights: Issues and Challenges for River Basin Organizations in Asia." Four thematic workshops on Facilities Management will be held in 2007-2008. The 1st workshop was conducted on 11-14 June 2007 in Hanoi, Viet Nam. A new series of Thematic Workshops on Water-Related Disaster Management will be held in 2007-2008.

NARBO started developing a performance benchmarking system through benchmarking activities in 2004. NARBO’s performance benchmarking system and peer review process was formally launched at the 2 nd Southeast Asia Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia in September 2005. On 30 October- 3 November 2006, IWMI and ADB conducted a workshop on Piloting NARBO’s Performance Benchmarking Tool and Peer Review Process in Jatiluhur, Indonesia. A group of 15 senior management staff from 8 river basin organizations became the first batch of Certified NARBO Peer Reviewers. Following the training, NARBO’s peer review process was piloted on the Indonesia’s Jasa Tirta II Public Corporation. More NARBO benchmarking activities are expected to be held in NARBO member countries in 2007. |

RBOs will facilitate Twinning Program for closer relations among NARBO members. Various forms of the program highly recommended such as information exchange, staff exchange and exchange visit. The twinning program between JWA and Indonesia NARBO allowed the exchange of staff for knowledge sharing in May and June 2006. |

NARBO members will promote investments and financing for IWRM in their river basins, and get advice from other members and partners in identifying and preparing river basin projects. A consultation on priority issues for the NARBO Working Group on Basin Water Financing was held in Manila, Philippines on 31 May 2006. The consultation discussed issues and challenges in financing IWRM in river basins. |
