Network of Asian River Basin Organizations

Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is recognized by many as the paradigm for establishing good water governance and putting water resources on the recovery path. The Network of Asian River Basin Organizations (NARBO) was established to share knowledge and build capacity for IWRM in river basins throughout the Asia and Pacific region.
ADB, ADB Institute, and the Japan Water Agency supported NARBO's establishment in 2003, with these objectives:
- Exchange of information and experience among river basin organizations (RBOs) in Asia
- Strengthen RBOs' capacity and effectiveness in promoting IWRM and improving water governance

NARBO's new management team explored how to accelerate integrated water resources management in basin projects and influence government leaders. NARBO members were requested to pilot a water security assessment in 4 basins in 2011. The meeting was hosted by a leading corporate basin organization in Indonesia.
