About NARBO

The Network of Asian River Basin Organizations (NARBO) was established to share knowledge and build capacity for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in river basins throughout Asia.

AREAS FOR COLLABORATION

Collaboration among the three agencies, acting together as NARBO's Secretariat, will create synergy and strengthen regional cooperation in the water sector among developing countries and development partners in the region. The activities will focus on

  • Promoting advocacy and raising awareness for IWRM
  • Establishing RBOs
  • Sharing information, good practices and lessons learned by RBOs
  • Supporting NARBO members to improve water governance
  • Improving water governance for IWRM
  • Building capacity of RBOs to implement IWRM
  • Fostering regional cooperation for transboundary river basins

NARBO CHARTER

NARBO's charter [ PDF ] was first discussed at the launching meeting in Thailand in November 2003, and ratified during the 1st General Meeting in Indonesia in February 2004. It is updated every 2 years, the ratification coinciding with the general meetings. The current version [ PDF ] of the charter was approved in February 2008 after the 3rd General Meeting in Solo, Indonesia.
