Aakash Ganga (River from Sky) is a self-sustaining rainwater harvesting system developed by BP Agrawal to solve drinking water scarcity in arid or low rainfall regions in India. It captures rainwater and channels it into underground water reservoirs. It has been implemented in six villages in Rajasthan, providing drinking water to 10,000 people.

This PDA will demonstrate the use of the Aakash Ganga Network in Guiyang municipal area. Once successful, Aakash Ganga will serve as model for the small reservoirs network of ADB's Guiyang Integrated Water Resources Management project.

  • Safe drinking water to millions of people of the Guiyang municipal area
  • Increased economic productivity and independence of women and girls
  • Promotion of local artisans
  • Reduced emigration from villages to urban areas
  • Strengthened familial bonds
