Targeting poverty reduction

Poverty reduction is at the heart of ADBs operations as articulated in its Poverty Reduction Strategy, Long Term Strategic Framework, and Medium Term Strategic Framework, individual sector policies, and country Poverty Partnership Agreements.

Projects and programs are guided to deliver this goal through interventions targeted specifically at:

improving the situation of poor and vulnerable groups;
generating economic growth in ways that have demonstrated links to poverty reduction; and
building capacity of local institutions.

Specific guidance on targeting poverty interventions in the water sector can be found in ADB's Water for All Publication Series covering the urban and rural water supply and flood management. These publications provide an insight into the issues relating to water security and the poor.
