Incorporation of Social Dimensions in Bank Operations

A Handbook on Incorporating Social Dimensions was published in 1994. In 1997, ADB published its operational guidance OM 47 on incorporating social dimensions into its activities. 'The specific social dimensions identified for such consideration are

  1. poverty reduction
  2. enhancement of the role of women in development
  3. human development including population planning
  4. avoiding or mitigating the adverse effects of development on vulnerable groups'.

OM 47 will soon be replaced by a new OM C3 although many of the provisions related to project identification will remain.
