Involuntary Resettlement

ADB's Policy on Involuntary Resettlement was introduced in August 1995.

'The objectives of the Bank's policy on involuntary resettlement should be to (i) avoid involuntary resettlement where feasible; and (ii) minimize resettlement where population displacement is unavoidable,…' (para 33).

Additional guidance was provided in 1998 through a Handbook on Resettlement: A Guide to Good Practice. The Operations Manual was revised in October 2003, see Operations Manual on Bank Policies and Operational Procedures.

View selected extracts from the Policy, Handbook and Operational Manual related to needs assessment or options assessment.
