What do ADB policies say?

ADB supports governments to identify development needs and assess alternative approaches to meet those needs in a variety of ways:

  • poverty and growth analysis
  • thematic assessments
  • sector analysis
  • country strategy and program

Context specific approaches are required. Each country and each sector are at different levels of development, have varying histories of analysis and are governed by distinct political and administrative systems.

The following extracts from ADB's policies, strategies, guidelines, and handbooks provide generic principles and guidance to identify the most appropriate response to a development need.

Note: Policies and strategies are approved by ADB Board of Directors; Handbooks and Guidelines are illustrative.
