Options for Flood Management

WCD Thematic Review IV.4 Assessment of Flood Control and Management Options examines the nature of floods, their benefits and costs, flood management options, the role of dams and sustainability issues.

The International Commission on Large Dams ( ICOLD) published Bulletin No. 125 in 2003 on Dams and Floods - Guidelines and Case Histories. It can be ordered from the ICOLD catalogue.

The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage has published a Manual on Non-structural Approaches to Flood Management . It can be ordered from the website.

ADBs 'Water for All' series includes a paper on Floods and the Poor - reducing the vulnerability of the poor to negative impacts of floods.
