UN Economic Council for Europe - Protocol on SEA

In 2003, 33 countries and the EU signed a protocol on Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment under the auspices of the UN Economic Council for Europe. The Protocol is a supplement to the UNECE Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention).

The Protocol requires its Parties to evaluate the environmental consequences of their official draft plans and programs encompassing the diverse areas of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, energy, industry including mining, transport regional development, waste management, water management and tourism as well as addressing issues related to policy and legislation.
