Existing projects - a development opportunity

There are an estimated 45,000 large dams worldwide.

On the performance side, this presents a significant base within which to increase production - in both developed and developing countries. At the same time, there is growing awareness of the need to resolve outstanding social and environmental problems.

Taken together, the attainment of improved performance of existing projects and the resolution of past problems offer an opportunity to demonstrate and engender confidence in a new approach to water resources planning.
