Improving governance in the water sector to deliver on commitments
As indicated in the policies of international organizations and examples outlined this e-paper, extensive guidance on planning and implementation of projects exists to promote the core principles of equitable and sustainable development. Often problems occur in the implementation of those policies and guidelines or as a result of institutional constraints, differing interpretations, vested interest lack of awareness. Key governance challenges at a macro level of government management and fiscal operations are described on ADB's Governance web pages. This section touches on two areas. First the overall institutional framework in terms of encouraging greater co-operation across sectors and introduction of the concept of integrated water resources management. Second, it looks at compliance mechanisms related to project implementation, delivering on commitments. For further information see:
