Data and statistical analysis in the Asia and Pacific region contributes to knowledge generation in ADB, helping strengthen its institutional priorities and operational effectiveness in its developing member countries.
In developing Asia many countries still lack access to safe water services with only about 30% of populations in Cambodia, Mongolia, and Tonga having safe access while in Lao PDR and Nepal, it is just 18% of the population.
In 2020, at least seven economies in Asia and the Pacific had an access percentage in rural areas of half or less, compared to those living in towns and cities. Such data points to the need to focus on rural areas when policymakers and development professionals plan water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH ) projects.
