ADBI Dean, Experts Present T7 Communiqué to Germany Chancellor Scholz Ahead of G7 Summit
Berlin, Germany – Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) Dean Tetsushi Sonobe and other senior experts from the Think7 (T7), the Group of 7’s (G7) think tank enagement group, presented Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz with the T7 Communiqué outlining new policy recommendations for the G7 during a ceremony at the Germany Chancellory in Berlin on 25 May.
The T7 Communiqué describes research-based policy innovations developed by ADBI and global think tank partners via the inaugural T7 process. The T7 was formally launched by the Global Solutions Initiative and German Development Institute under Germany’s 2022 G7 presidency and this year culminated with the T7 Summit in Berlin on 23-24 May.
The T7 Communiqué aims to support policy discussions by G7 member countries, whose Leaders will convene for the G7 Summit at Schloss Elmau on 26-28 June. Chancellor Scholz will guide the summit as G7 President.
Joined by ADBI Vice-Chair of Research John Beirne, Dean Sonobe introduced the T7 Sustainable Recovery Task Force, which he co-chaired, and its recommendations for boosting economic recovery that aligns with longer-term development targets. The task force’s recommendations cover imperatives such as climate action and fostering more equitable economies.
Dean Sonobe noted the importance of G7 engagement with developing economies to address shared challenges, which could help improve prosperity and wellbeing for more people. He added that ADBI will do its best to build on the inclusive policy research approach adopted by T7 Germany host think tanks in 2022.
ADBI is expected to host the T7 process in 2023, as part of Japan’s G7 presidency.
