Tokyo, Japan – A new ADB book discusses supply chain realignment for reducing the overconcentration of key supply networks and strengthening economic resilience to counter post-pandemic disruptions and uncertainty over geopolitical tensions. Fostering Resilient Global Supply Chains Amid Risk and Uncertainty examines the benefits of well-functioning global supply chains for maximizing productive capacities and nurturing economic growth at both the regional and global levels.

It draws on cases from Asia and the Pacific on linkages between the region’s economic progress over the past decades and effective participation in global supply chains. It also details vulnerabilities in these supply chains, with notable concentration risks in energy and food supply networks, which have triggered inflation and exacerbated barriers to development in low-income countries in areas such as poverty, inequality, hunger, and malnutrition.

Coedited by ADBI’s Dina Azhgaliyeva, John Beirne, Dil B. Rahut, and Yixin Yao, this latest volume from ADBI Press overviews the current trends in the global supply chain transformation, policy approaches for building resilient supply chains, the role of digital technologies, and the importance of multilateral cooperation. The coeditors and experts highlighted key policy recommendations from the book for navigating toward a more sustainable and resilient future during a launch webinar on 12 October.
