REGISTRATION: Nobel Laureate Michael Kremer, Experts to Discuss Digital Rural Development

Tokyo, Japan – Registration is open for an 8-12 August ADBI virtual conference featuring Nobel Laureate Michael Kremer of the University of Chicago and other high-profile development economists, who will discuss keys to promoting sustainable rural and agricultural development via digital innovation.

Kremer, who received the 2019 Nobel Prize for economics for his joint experimental approach to alleviating poverty, will explain how digitalization can further build the sector’s productivity and economic incluson.

Colorado State University’s Edward Barbier, who originated the “Green New Deal”, an economic model that boosts growth and jobs through low-carbon transition, will explore ways to tackle the digital divide in Asia’s rural communities while Peking University’s Jikun Huang will explain how technological integration can transform rural development.

Drawing upon new research from across Asia and globally, other experts will assess how greater digital technology adoption can lift agricultural production, trade, and the wellbeing of rural households. They will also examine policy imperatives and intervention programs to support the sector’s digitalization.

Conference presentations will be followed by audience question and answer sessions.
