REGISTRATION: Yale University’s Rohini Pande – When the Tide Turns: Poverty, Inequality and Power

Tokyo, Japan Registration is open for an Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) Featured Speaker Webinar with Rohini Pande, esteemed Yale University economics professor and Director of the Yale Economic Growth Center. She will discuss the interlinkage between poverty, inequality, and power and the role of policy in driving inclusive growth, with ADBI Dean Tetsushi Sonobe and experts.

Pande, described as “one of the most influential development economists of her generation” by the American Economic Association, will examine how poverty and growth trends have changed over time and keys to development research moving forward.

She will also draw upon her research on gender and labor market responses to the COVID-19 crisis to assess how institutions can better support women’s socioeconomic empowerment and social protection reforms, and chart pathways to equitable post-pandemic recovery and development.

The discussion will be followed by an audience question and answer session.

About the Speaker:

Rohini Pande is the Henry J. Heinz II Professor of Economics and Director of the Economic Growth Center at Yale University. Her research interests include formal and informal institutions’ function in shaping political and economic power dynamics, social protection innovation, and the role of greater awareness of economic justice and human rights in driving change.

Previously, Pande was the Rafik Harriri Professor of International Political Economy at Harvard Kennedy School, where she co-founded Evidence for Policy Design. she received her PhD in economics from the London School of Economics and an MA and BA from Oxford University.
