COVID-19 and Potential for Economic Recovery in CAREC Region

The impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak on trade, supply chains, and market connectivity have heavily affected CAREC region countries, which include Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Pakistan, the People's Republic of China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

Assessing the magnitude of these challenges and deploying effective policy responses will play a critical role in determining the CAREC region’s potential to efficiently recover and proceed with economic development and regional integration, in accordance with the CAREC Strategy 2030.

The CAREC Institute and ADBI invite original, unpublished paper submissions addressing COVID-19 and the CAREC region’s economic recovery potential, to be presented during the CAREC Institute’s inaugural research conference on 4-5 March 2021 and considered for publication in an edited book. Priority topics include, but are not limited to:

  • COVID and debt management and sustainability in the CAREC region
  • COVID and labor mobility in the CAREC region
  • COVID and small and small and medium-sized enterprises in the CAREC region
  • COVID and tourism in the CAREC region
  • COVID and the digital economy in the CAREC region, including e-commerce, fintech, e-phyto, and other related issues

Submission Procedure

Authors have the option of first submitting an abstract of no more than 500 words by 10 November 2020 to [email protected] and [email protected]. Notifications of accepted abstracts will be sent on 15 November 2020.

All authors should submit their draft full manuscript of no more than 7,000 words, excluding annexes, to the email addresses above by 5 January 2021.

Both the abstract and draft full manuscript should be prepared in English using Microsoft Word, with 12-point Times New Roman font, single spacing, and a one-inch margins on all sides. Authors should follow the APA style manual (6ht ed.) in formatting and referencing. All figures and tables should be displayed where they are intended to appear in the text.

All submissions are required to include the following information on a separate cover page:

  • Manuscript title
  • Name(s) of author(s) in intended order of authorship, their organizational affiliation(s), position(s), and e-mail address(es)
  • Lead author telephone number
  • Manuscript word count

Assessment Criteria

All submissions will be reviewed by the CAREC Institute and ADBI under a double-blind process, based on the following criteria:

  • Significance/contribution to the field
  • Relevance to conference theme
  • Aims and purposes
  • Theoretical foundation
  • Methodology
  • Results
  • Conclusion
