Evolution of the China Railway Express in the Context of Policy Support Trade Trends and Infrastructure Supply
We delve into the developmental trajectory and future prospects of China Railway (CR) Express, a containerized railway freight service between the People’s Republic of China (the PRC) and Europe, and examine the associated infrastructure investment needs for enhancing Eurasian freight transport. Since its establishment in 2011, CR Express has demonstrated remarkable growth, resilient even in the face of challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Addressing Water Shortages Using a CommunityLed Approach
Extended droughts due to climate change have severely affected the village of San Julian (locally called barangay, the smallest administrative unit) in the Philippines, where 43% of the population is considered poor. Exacerbated by increasing demand due to urbanization and an inadequate water system, dry spells have led to severe water shortages for about half of the year. To address this problem, the community of San Julian with funding from the Asian Development Bank decided to build a small-scale water system following a community-led approach.
Convergent and External Validity of Risk Preference Elicitation Methods Evidence from Viet Nam
We add to the body of evidence on the reliability of risk preference measurements using evidence from a survey and experiment in rural Viet Nam. We conducted a field survey and experiment with a random sample of 350 households. Subjects face various incentivized elicitation methods, including multiple price lists and Gneezy-Potters-style tasks as well as non-incentivized tasks and general attitude questions about willingness to take on risk. Most elicitation methods provide evidence that respondents are, on average, risk-averse.
Direct Elections and Trust in State and Political Institutions Evidence from Indonesias Election Reform
People’s trust in state and political institutions is a key foundation of a well-functioning economy. We estimate the impact of direct elections on people’s trust in state and political institutions, using a major political reform in Indonesia as the source of exogenous variation. Prior to 2005, regents, mayors, and governors were elected by the local legislative assembly. Since 2005, however, they have had to compete in an open election where voters directly choose their preferred leader.
Thermal Energy Storage and Cooling Load Response
Thermal energy storage (TES) and demand response (DR) offer unique benefits to reducing the electricity consumption, carbon emission, investment, and operational cost of generating cooling energy by bridging the gap between cooling energy demand and production.
Solar Roofing Indias 500Gigawatt Renewable Energy Push through RESCOBased Distributed Generation
In 2015, India set itself the target of generating 100 gigawatts (GW) of energy from solar power by 2022, of which 60 GW was to be met by ground-mounted systems and 40 GW by rooftop installations. By November 2017, India had made significant progress in the installation of ground-mounted solar systems (16 GW), but only achieved 0.9 GW through solar rooftops.
Tuition Fee or Tuition Free The Case of Public Higher Education in the Philippines
Three out of four Filipinos aspire to send their children to college. However, enrollment in tertiary education remains a barrier for many aspirants. In the 2013 Functional Literacy, Education, and Mass Media Survey, the high cost of education was cited as one of the reasons for not attending school among the population aged 16 to 24 years. Congress and the Senate have submitted the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act to the President for approval.
