    ADB President Takehiko Nakao met with civil society organizations and NGOs on 3 May 2018 at the 51st ADB Annual Meeting in Manila, Philippines. More than 200 civil society representatives attended the meeting.

    The civil society panel discussed how ADB’s Private Sector Operations Department (PSOD) implements and monitors its safeguards compliance and commitment to information disclosure. This session also tackled ways to improve the current implementation of safeguards at the PSOD.

    This session recognized the growing role of CSO engagement with governments to strengthen the implementation of the OGP across national and subnational levels. It featured successful open governance and transparency initiatives and discussed key implementation stumbling blocks and building blocks encountered.

    The session discussed initiatives and approaches to supporting and strengthening agricultural cooperatives, including the importance of lobby and advocacy by farmers organizations to help improve the enabling environment for cooperatives business.
