ADB Signs MOU with Sri Lanka for 55th Annual Meeting in Colombo

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Sri Lanka signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 29 September 2021 for Sri Lanka to host the 2022 Annual Meeting in Colombo from 2 to 5 May.

ADB was represented by Kenichi Yokoyama, Director General of the South Asia Department, who was on mission in Colombo, and ADB’s Secretary, Muhammad Ehsan Khan, who joined remotely. Sri Lanka was represented by S. R. Attygalle, ADB’s Alternate Governor and Secretary of Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Finance. Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance and the Chair of the Board of Governors and Governor for Sri Lanka in ADB, witnessed the signing ceremony.

In his remarks, Mr. Rajapaksa said: “We are very honored to be hosting the 55th Annual Meeting in Sri Lanka. We already established an office and a special committee to oversee the arrangements for the meeting, and with our successful vaccination program, we hope to control the meeting with the assistance of ADB and other international organizations such as the World Health Organization.”

“We are honored that Sri Lanka will be hosting the 55th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors in May 2022. Sri Lanka is one of the founding members of ADB and the hosting of the Annual Meeting in Colombo signals another important milestone in its development partnership with ADB,” said Mr. Khan. “This makes Sri Lanka the second country in the South Asian region to host our meeting.”

Call for Proposals: Sponsored Seminars

International private and public organizations, including research institutes and think tanks are invited to sponsor a seminar in the sidelines of the 55th ADB Annual Meeting. The deadline for submitting proposals is on 1 December 2021. See details on themes, submission format and selection criteria

On 29 September 2021, ADB and the Government of Sri Lanka signed the MoU for Sri Lanka to host the 2022 Annual Meeting in Colombo.

ADB Secretary Muhammad Ehsan Khan joined virtually from Manila for the MoU signing.

See you in Colombo

Colombo, Sri Lanka will be the host city for ADB’s 55th Annual Meeting in 2022. In his remarks at the Business Session of the 54th Annual Meeting, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Chair of the ADB Board of Governors for 2021-2022 and Minister of Finance of Sri Lanka, acknowledged ADB’s timely response to the COVID-19 pandemic and invited participants to continue the dialogue in Colombo.
