1. INTERNSHIP TOPIC:
"Financial Sustainability of ADB Revenue-Generating Projects: A Historical Analysis and Lessons Learned."

2. SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
The intern will prepare a historical 5-year analysis of ADB revenue-generating projects using ADB project documents, project completion reports (PCRs), IED reports, and other validation reports. The Intern will summarize the findings, identify “painpoints”, and provide a summary of lessons learned and recommendations to improve project and entity financial sustainability.

Source documents include (i) findings of the Annual Evaluation Report of the IED for 2016 to 2021, (ii) PCR and validation reports issued by IED from 2016 to 2021 for revenue-generating sectors, and (iii) any sector assistance program evaluation reports issued by IED for between 2016 and 2021, (iv) all reports and recommendations of the President and linked documents approved in 2016 and 2021 for revenue generating projects.

3. PERIOD OF ASSIGNMENT:
• Duration: 8 weeks
• Timing: January 2023

4. LOCATION: ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines (or virtually, depending on prevailing travel restrictions)

5. EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
An analytical report summarizing assessment results on the extent to which the design of revenue-generating projects between 2016 and 2021 has considered the recommendations from IED reports and lessons learned from PCRs to enhance financial sustainability.

Qualifications

6. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Currently enrolled in a Masters or PhD program with specialization in finance or economics (financial management, financial analysis, or corporate finance). A professional qualification such as Chartered Accountant, Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst, or similar would be an advantage.

7. RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
1. Working in utilities’ sectors directly or with regulators
2. Financial analysis of large state-owned enterprises, preferably in the utilities’ sectors
3. Financial modeling and data analysis
