Description
Developing countries in Asia and the Pacific are at the forefront of the global transition towards a resilient, and low-carbon economy. This will require multi-decade national transformations that can be powerful drivers of growth and sustainable development, but climate goals need to be tied to social and economic needs and ambitions and climate actions must be inclusive, equitable, and just.
Objectives
This event aims to launch the collaborative process of designing ADB’s Just Transition Facility. It will also host a dialogue among key stakeholders from the public and private sectors to understand the challenges and opportunities and share early lessons in implementing just transition in the region. The discussion will cover the following themes:
- Mobilizing just transition finance: Achieving a just transition will require resources from both the public and the private sector. Scaling and deploying a range of conventional and innovative instruments is essential to meet the diverse needs of stakeholders, sectors, and regions. As a response, ADB is developing a Just Transition Financing Facility that will bring different financing partners and develop innovative instruments to support just transition in the region. ADB formally invites partners to participate in this collaborative process for designing the facility.
- Creating enabling environments and implementing just transition: There is a strong conceptual buy-in for just transition but there are limited practical examples in the region. In addition to finance, the knowledge base, institutional capacity, governance frameworks, and partnerships must be strengthened to understand, plan, and implement just transition.
