Description
PSOD’s Trade and Supply Chain Finance Program (TSCFP) is working with IFRS Foundation and GS1 (a not for profit that specializes in digitalizing commercial information in supply chains) to explore ways to digitalize the supply chain data collection processes with the aim of improving supply chain data traceability and helping companies easily report on IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards. Supply chain traceability will also enable SME suppliers to demonstrate compliance with jurisdictional requirements and maintain market access. When the effort is scaled across markets and industries, this has the potential to enable end-to-end carbon tracking across international supply chains, including Scope 3, and improve the accuracy of reporting.
Objectives
- We propose to host a panel discussion on carbon tracking in global supply chains, including demonstrating and reporting compliance with relevant IFRS standards, including to Scope 3.
- We will demo a QR-code based tracking and reporting solution that is being developed through this TSCFP/ADB initiative
Agenda
Panel members will discuss the importance of the IFRS climate standards, and the power of a credible and robust technology solution that allows for end-to-end tracking of carbon emissions in international supply chains. The potential for reducing carbon emissions in global trade, by facilitating alignment with IFRS standards and regulatory requirements has significant potential to be transformative.
Target participants
This is targeted to participants interested in international trade and supply chains, with specific focus on supply chain transparency related to greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), as well as the ability of supply chains to report against leading standards and regulatory requirements. Trade has been associated with up to 80% of global carbon emissions; ADB has convened a unique partnership to leverage QR code technology to track carbon across supply chains, and to allow reporting against highly authoritative standards developed by the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation.
This panel will explore the transformational potential of effective carbon tracking and reporting, and will include a demonstration of the technology being developed to facilitate this tracking and reporting solution.
