Description
Enhancing climate action to meet Paris Agreement goals is an urgent global priority that requires strategic and sustained global cooperation. Mitigation of high Global Warming Potential (GWP) greenhouse gases (GHGs) can be a fast and cost-effective solution to meet the 1.5°C ambition.
Rapidly reducing emissions of the high GWP GHGs, such as methane, hydrofluorocarbons, nitrous oxide, and sulfur hexafluoride, can contribute significantly to put the global emissions to the trajectory that is compatible with the temperature goals of the Paris Agreement. Although there are technological solutions for curtailing emission of these high GWP GHGs, there are also challenges impeding their adoption and implementation at scale in Asia and the Pacific.
In this event, a panel of experts will discuss various challenges and opportunities to abate emission of high GWP GHG emission sectors. As carbon finance mobilized through international carbon markets can incentivize investments for systematically promoting low carbon technologies and solutions, the panel will also explore the role carbon markets can play in transforming high GWP GHGs emitting sectors and enhancing climate action.
Objectives
The objectives of this event are to:
- Shed light on the challenges and opportunities to abate emission of high GWP gases.
- Highlight the important role carbon markets can play in catalyzing investments for transforming high GWP GHG emitting sectors. Provide insights from ongoing initiatives and programs and share perspectives on what the future may hold to mitigate high GPW GHG.
Target participants
This event will target policy makers, industry professionals, and private entities involved in sectors associated with high GWP GHG emitting sectors.
