  • 10 September 2019 ADB participates in the second Green Growth Forum in Nur-Sultan

    Kazakhstan’s Vice-Minister of Environment, Geology and Natural Resources Mr. Akhmetzhan Primkulov and ADB Country Director Giovanni Capannelli spoke at the first panel session of the second Green Growth Forum. Mr. Capannelli shared ADB’s experience in supporting green finance and low carbon development and discussed the country’s taxonomy implementation challenges. The event gathered about 200 representatives of financial institutions, government agencies, international organizations and private sector.     

  • 30 August 2019 ADB supports the first Light Industry Forum and Exhibition in Nur-Sultan

    Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Roman Sklyar and Country Director Giovanni Capannelli spoke in a panel session that launched the first Light Industry Forum and Exhibition held on 29-30 August. Mr. Capannelli discussed the role of the light industry in the economy of Kazakhstan and ADB’s financial and technical support to the sector. The exhibition featured products of about 80 domestic producers of garments, footwear, leather, fur, home textiles and accessories. The event was organized by ADB under TRTA 8918: KAZ  Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Development Project, in collaboration with Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development and National Chamber of Entrepreneurs Atameken.

  • 10 July 2019 ADB supports regional workshops for rural women entrepreneurs across Kazakhstan

    ADB and Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs successfully organized workshops on development of women entrepreneurship in five regions of Kazakhstan starting from 23 May 2019. Similar workshops aimed at improving the financial, legal and business literacy of rural women entrepreneurs will be held in nine other regions of the country until the end of the year. The workshops are financed by ADB's technical assistance project Strengthening Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Finance Project. 

  • 4 July 2019 ADB speaks on renewable energy development in Kazakhstan

    In his speech at the Solar Fest Qazaqstan, Country Director Giovanni Capannelli shared ADB’s views on measures required for scaling up investments in solar and other renewable projects in Kazakhstan, in particular stressing the need to bring the power purchasing agreement closer to international standards. Solar Fest Qazaqstan is an international forum on renewable energy organized by Ministry of Energy and Solar Power Association of Kazakhstan.

  • 26 June 2019 ADB and UNDP agree to scale up joint support to SDGs in Kazakhstan

    Country Director Giovanni Capannelli and UNDP Resident Representative Yakup Beris,signed a $200,000 administrative arrangement in Nur-Sultan aimed at supporting the nationalization and localization of SDG in Kazakhstan. ADB and UNDP are also assisting the government prepare its SDGs’ Voluntary National Review to be presented at the United Nations’ High-Level Political Forum in July 2019 in New York. The new arrangement scales up to $600,000 an ongoing ADB-UNDP ongoing collaboration in helping the country create a national platform for SDG implementation.

  • 4 April 2019 ADB signs the first Knowledge Partnership Agreement in Kazakhstan

    Country Director Giovanni Capannelli and the Corporate Fund “NAC Analytica” Chairperson Aktoty Aitzhanova signed a Knowledge Partnership Agreement (KPA) in Nur-Sultan. It is the first ADB’s KPA in Kazakhstan, which is aimed to help promote high-quality research and policy dialogue on entrepreneurship and SME development.  “NAC Analytica” is a non-profit think-tank established within Nazarbayev University to carry out research and analytical work on topical issues for Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

  • 29 March 2019 Strategic Planning Workshop held in Nur-Sultan

    ADB jointly with Kazakhstan’s Ministry of National Economy organized a Strategic Planning Workshop in Nur-Sultan as the first of the key events to commemorate the 25th anniversary of ADB-Kazakhstan partnership. Director General of Strategy and Policy Department Tomoyuki Kimura introduced ADB’s Strategy 2030, Vice-Minister Madina Zhunusbekova gave an overview of Kazakhstan's Strategy 2025, and Country Director Giovanni Capannelli spoke about ADB's role in supporting innovation and knowledge in Kazakhstan.  About 30 high-level representatives of government and quasi-public sector agencies participated in the workshop.

  • 28 March 2019 ADB conducts country portfolio review

    ADB organized a country portfolio review meeting with the representatives of Ministry of National Economy, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development and Damu Entrepreneurship Development Fund.  The parties discussed the main performance indicators such as contract awards and disbursements and the status of 2018 action plan implementation, and agreed on suggested actions for 2019.  

  • 27 March 2019 Promoting women's economic empowerment in Kazakhstan

    A workshop on Women's Economic Empowerment was held through ADB's partnership with the State Commission on Women and UN Women. The event, supported by regional technical assistance on Strengthening Gender-Inclusive Growth in Central and West Asia, discussed challenges and opportunities in women's employment and entrepreneurship. ADB Kazakhstan Resident Mission Country Director Giovanni Capannelli gave the opening remarks. The Kazakhstan Country Gender Assessment was launched during the event in Nur-Sultan.

  • 18 January 2019 ADB joins the discussion on improvement of Kazakhstan’s investment policy

    Сountry Director Giovanni Capannelli participated in the meeting organized by the Ministry of the National Economy on the improvement of state investment policy. The representatives of international development institutions, state agencies, and research institutions shared ideas and proposals on improving the investment climate in Kazakhstan.  Ministry of National Economy briefed the participants about the new initiatives to improve the investment policy, including the establishment of a permanent Investment Council within the Ministry to be headed by the First Vice-Minister of National Economy Ruslan Dalenov.
