Papua New Guinea needs a diverse economy and an enabling business environment to support long-term growth. ADB investments in the country supports private sector activities and economic productivity.
This COBP focuses on the five priority areas of the CPS: transport, energy, health, water and other urban infrastructure and services, and public sector management.
The new forecast, published in the Asian Development Outlook (ADO) 2018 Update, is down from 2.2% growth projected in April. A weaker outlook for Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Timor-Leste, the Pacific’s largest and third-largest economies, pulled the forecast lower. Growth across the subregion is expected to accelerate to 3.1% in 2019.
Investments in basic services must be complemented by policy and regulatory reforms as well as capacity development to support a shift towards more commercially viable utilities in the Pacific, says the latest issue of the ADB Pacific Economic Monitor.
