Nepal: Road Connectivity Sector I Project
In 2006, the Board of Directors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a $55.2 million grant to help finance the $80 million Road Connectivity Sector I project. The project was to construct or upgrade 10 roads and one bridge—the first phase of the works planned under the 10-year midterm program, with the remainder planned for subsequent projects. The project was the first sector loan modality approved for Nepal’s transport sector. The project also included a $300,000 technical assistance to strengthen the technical capacity of the Department of Roads and that of contractors and consultants in the areas of planning, feasibility, survey, design, procurement, construction, safeguard, and maintenance of the road network. A project completion report was prepared in July 2016 and is the subject of this evaluation. IED overall assessment: Successful.
