Sri Lanka: National Highways Sector Project
The National Highways Sector Project was to address development constraints through investments in physical infrastructure that included the upgrading of about 270 km of national highway; improving and replacing bridges, drainage, and culverts; and developing and hiring local private contractors of a pilot performance-based maintenance (PBM) program in four to six executive engineer divisions. The project was also to support policy and institutional aspects of improving the transport sector regulatory framework, reorganize the Road Development Authority (RDA), improve its human resource development policy and strategies, and integrate project management.
