Water Financing Partnership Facility Annual Report 2020

Institutional Document | February 2021

This final report of the Water Financing Partnership Facility (WFPF) under its 2007–2020 Design and Monitoring Framework looks into the facility’s 14-year operation, project impact stories, achievements, and lessons learned.

WFPF is composed of three trust funds: the Multidonor Trust Fund with contributions from Australia, Austria, Norway (2007–2017), Spain, and Switzerland; the Netherlands Trust Fund; and the Sanitation Financing Partnership Trust Fund with contribution from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Since its establishment in November 2006, through the support of its partners, WFPF has helped deliver 109 ADB investment projects in 20 countries across the region.

WFPF has also surpassed its overall target impact of contributing at least 115 million project beneficiaries to the 765 million people target of the ADB Water Financing Program—with 119.8 million expected beneficiaries from WFPF-supported projects, as of the end of 2020. Of this total beneficiaries, 43.7 million people have already been realized from completed investments, and the remainder will be attained once ongoing projects are achieved.

This 2020 Annual Report also presents the activities that will define the next phase of WFPF – which includes an evaluation, the development of a new DMF for 2021–2030, and updating its implementation guidelines – that will enable it to continue supporting ADB's water operations toward a water-secure and resilient Asia and the Pacific.
