Water Financing Partnership Facility Annual Report 2022

Since its establishment in 2006, the Water Financing Partnership Facility (WFPF) has been instrumental in accelerating water sector investments with high development impact, supporting key water policy and institutional reforms, and building the capacity of water sector organizations and institutions across the Asia and the Pacific region.

With the support of the partners, including the governments of Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, WFPF has been improving the lives of millions of people in the region by expanding access to enhanced water and sanitation services, improving the management of water resources, promoting gender equality, contributing to environmental sustainability and reduced flood risk, building climate change resilience, and promoting greater food security.

Building on these remarkable results and incorporating lessons learned during the past 16 years, WFPF is continuing to support Asian Development Bank (ADB) water operations and overall water security across Asia and the Pacific. The priorities under Phase 2 of WFPF (2021–2030) align with ADB’s Water Sector Directional Guide (WSDG), which incorporates the vision of a water-secure and resilient Asia and the Pacific and provides strategic direction for ADB’s support to the water sector.

This annual report presents results and achievements for 2022, based on the Facility’s Results Framework 2021–2030. As described in this report, in 2022 WFPF supported an additional six new activities, which will contribute to innovations in project design, capacity building, and institutional reforms across Asia and the Pacific. Chapter II provides an overview of these highlights and achievements. Chapter III features WFPF-supported projects across the region, focused around ADB’s guiding principles. Chapter IV shows the contribution of the WFPF portfolio to the new results framework outcomes and outputs. Chapter V describes the Facility’s financial status, and Chapter VI details its current management.
