Report on the Equivalence and Acceptability Assessments for the Power Grid Corporation of India, Ltd.: Consultation Draft (Hindi Translation)
Asian Development Bank (ADB), in its 2009 Safeguard Policy Statement (SPS), may consider the application of a country’s safeguard systems (CSS) to identify and manage the social and environmental risks associated with ADB-financed projects at the national, subnational, sector, or agency level.
The Government of India has requested ADB to consider the use of the Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) safeguard system, the Environment and Social Policy and Procedures (ESPP), for projects funded by ADB.
ADB has conducted reviews of the ESPP and POWERGRID’s track record to determine if the agency is capable of delivering the objectives and policy principles of the SPS. The review findings are presented in a policy equivalence and capacity acceptability report. The report includes a plan of action for POWERGRID to enhance the ESPP and its implementation. In line with the guidelines for considering the use of CSS, ADB undertook a consultation program on its assessment of the ESPP from 5 August 2016 to 19 August 2016.
This assessment is a work in progress, the purpose of which is to encourage an iterative process of feedback and update. When finalized, the Borrower will verify the assessment.
