Asian Development Bank and the Lao PDR: Fact Sheet (Lao Translation)
ADB assistance to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) focuses on four core sectors: agriculture, natural resources, and rural development; education; energy; and water and other municipal infrastructure.
ADB has been supporting the Government of the Lao PDR since 1968, and remains one of the country’s largest multilateral financiers. ADB has provided $2.6 billion in loans, grants, and technical assistance to the Lao PDR.
Under the ADB country partnership strategy (CPS), 2017–2020 for the Lao PDR, ADB operations will work to improve physical connectivity to catalyze private sector investment, generate employment and boost incomes, develop skills that will grow nonresource sectors, and improve access to health services to enhance labor productivity. ADB investments will also help ensure sustainable management of natural resources and bolster climate resilience. Gender equity and effective governance are crosscutting themes.
Updated yearly, this ADB Fact Sheet provides social and economic indicators on the Lao PDR as well as concise information on ADB's operations in the country and contact information.
