ADB’s Strategy 2030 aims to eradicate extreme poverty while working for a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific. Financing partnerships are working intensely—designing and implementing projects, testing ideas, and sharing knowledge—to achieve the targets of Strategy 2030’s seven operational priorities.
Tackling Climate Change, Building Climate and Disaster Resilience, and Enhancing Environmental Sustainability
In 2019, about $700 million was mobilized from partners, prioritizing climate mitigation actions, climate and disaster resilience interventions, climate resilient infrastructure, improving access to credit and insurance, and helping countries to transition to renewable and clean energy sources.
Making Cities More Livable
ADB and its financing partners have made crosscutting investments to transform Asia’s cities into more livable urban centers—including environment-friendly transport, energy-saving water supply infrastructure, and green housing development. Further investments were focused on climate change and improving disaster resilience.
Governance and Capacity Building
Asia’s public sector institutions are pursuing efficiency and accountability on many avenues, from financial management to service orientation and more. With about 127 cofinanced projects pursuing good governance in some form, ADB’s financing partnerships continue to help strengthen the capacity of public institutions to undertake policy reforms and promote private sector development.
Fostering Regional Cooperation and Integration
ADB’s financing partnerships cofinanced in 2019 some 50 projects designed to increasingly interconnect Asia. Regional cooperation and integration have become more critical than ever, particularly in sharing health and medical knowledge and resources to address the ongoing global pandemic.
