2018 AMRO-ADBI Roundtable on the Japanese Economy

Background

As part of the 2018 ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) Annual Consultation Visit to Japan and following last year’s successful event at ADBI, AMRO’s Director Junhong Chang and ADBI Dean Naoyuki Yoshino would like to invite Japanese experts and jointly host a Roundtable to discuss the Japanese economy.

Similar to last year’s event, this policy dialogue will follow a theme, Japanese Economy at the Crossroads - Challenges for Sustainable Growth, and will discuss topics such as: the aging population and potential growth, monetary policy, and fiscal sustainability.

Objectives

The main objective of the Roundtable is to critically analyze current economic issues in Japan and to facilitate better understanding of those issues.

Participants

The target audience will be comprised of senior officials from AMRO and ADBI, and experts from Japanese universities and think tanks. There will be 15–20 participants in total.

Output
  • Enhanced awareness of the Japanese economy by ADBI and AMRO officials, and an exchange of ideas among these senior officials.
  • A follow-up and update on the Japanese economy since last year’s Roundtable.
