Summary

ADBI, the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Institute, and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) jointly convened an online training course on industrial value chain diagnostics for policy makers and private sector experts from the CAREC region and select Southeast Asian countries.

The course featured a series of self-study e-learning units on industrial value chain diagnostics for policymaking. They offered a “wide angle snapshot” of value chains and related development constraints and opportunities to help make strategic decisions about support measures.

The course also included lectures on regional and global value chain development and integration, led by Ghulam Samad of the CAREC Institute and ADBI’s Shujiro Urata, respectively.

Objectives
  • Highlight knowledge for analyzing specific industrial value chains and developing support programs
  • Provide a broad examination of value chains and related development challenges and pathways
  • Examine strategic decision-making keys for implementing development support measures at different value chain points
Target Participants
  • Policy makers and private sector experts engaged in value chain development from India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Viet Nam and CAREC member countries
Output
  • Greater understanding of value chain growth challenges and opportunities
  • Enhanced value chain development and analysis capacity
  • Identification of value chain support measures for strengthening regional economic integration
