This Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) Featured Speaker Webinar presented Rebecca Sta Maria, Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Secretariat, who discussed imperatives for rebuilding supply chains affected by the COVID-19 crisis and rising global instability, with ADBI Dean Tetsushi Sonobe and experts.
Sta Maria described the APEC region’s trade and supply chain outlook. She went on to detail APEC member economies’ policy priorities during Thailand’s host year that will culminate with the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting on 18-19 November in Bangkok and set the stage for the United States’ role as 2023 APEC host.
The discussion was followed by an audience question and answer session.
About the Speaker
Rebecca Sta Maria is Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat in Singapore, which provides advisory and institutional support for the 21 member economies that comprise the APEC trade forum and account for about half of global trade and 60% of world GDP.
Prior to joining APEC, she served as Secretary-General of Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry from 2010-2016. In this role, she oversaw the formulation of Malaysia’s trade policy and was chief negotiator for bilateral and regional free trade agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
In the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), she chaired the body that drafted ASEAN’s economic community blueprints for 2015 and 2025.
